“琵琶”二字，是从秦代筑长城的时候起，有模拟弹乐器上所发的音而得的状音字，在一个位置竖放或斜放乐器上，"琵"是模拟向左弹所得的音，“琶”是模拟向右弹所得的音。在较古的时候，凡用类似方法弹奏的乐器，都叫"琵琶"。所以在那时候，"琵琶"是多种乐器的总名，连现在的三弦，琵琶，阮，月琴都包括在内，后来同类弹乐器中的每一个有了专门的名称。琵琶这一名称变成为现在这样的一种琵琶所专有。琵琶在唐代被视为主要的乐器，当时的大曲，常以琵琶开始，现在琵琶在中国的中部和南部的民间仍相当流行，主要用来在伴奏说唱伴器合奏的，它也有着很多独奏的曲调。

两岁开始玩小提琴与钢琴，从小就是音乐奇才，小・中学校在「立教女学院」参加唱诗班。高校在著名「桐朋女子高等学校 音楽科」
大学进入「桐朋学园大学 音楽学部」专攻声乐。
编者注：这个学校培养很多日本的演艺人员，比如小提琴演奏家 西崎崇子 (参见我编写的词条)，有点象台湾的华冈艺校。
学生时代参加过「ECCのホノルル市长杯英语弁论大会」获得优胜奖。
1998年步入乐坛之后，她的歌声让“月之海”的河村隆一惊为天人，将她收在门下担任RKS计画中的女主唱，成为河村隆一的得意门生。KOKIA出过七张专辑。，两年前梁咏琪所拍摄的化妆品广告，曾以她的歌曲为背景音乐，同时郑秀文也翻唱过她的歌曲“感谢”，从此让大家见识到了KOKIA的气质美声。KOKIA的歌声有着浓浓的爱尔兰风味，所以有人说她是日本的恩雅，也有人说她是中岛美雪的接班人，其实，KOKIA就是KOKIA，她的歌声多了一点入世的生命力，她的音乐则多了一点游戏人间的味道。从爱尔兰的居尔特音乐、古典、世界、民谣音乐、歌剧，KOKIA总是能巧妙的将其融合，她的音乐总难定位，有时像个吟游女诗人，声声慢的唱出深远的意境；有时像个音乐小顽童，以一颗颗充满生命能量的跳动音符，挑逗听者的感官；有时又像个神秘主义大师，以迷离的乐章作为心灵治疗的处方。
